How to score 79+ in PTE academic – Tips & tricks

In this article I will share with you tips to score 79+ in PTE academic.

Speaking section:

PTE academic speaking test consists of 5 types of questions. Please follow these tips closely to score high in your exam.

Read aloud:

In this section you will get around 6 to 7 questions. You will have 30 to 40 seconds to read and prepare. At the end of 30 seconds, recording starts, and you need to read the text clearly and audibly.

Tips:

  • During your 30 seconds preparation time, read the paragraph completely and find words that are difficult to pronounce.
  • Try pronouncing difficult words again and again so that it will be easy while recording your audio
  • Keep an eye for timer and be ready to start as soon as the recording starts.
  • If you keep silent for more than 3 seconds, microphone turns off automatically and you cannot record your answer.
  • If you miss even one question, you won’t be able to get 79+ in PTE academic test.

Tricks:

  • Try to complete reading the passage within 15-25 seconds.
  • Skip reading difficult words while recording audio, this won’t affect your score much.
  • If you can complete reading passage in 15-25 seconds without any pauses or breaks, you should be able to score high in this section.

Repeat sentence:

In this section you will get around 10 to 12 questions. You will have repeat sentence as soon as recording stops. You must repeat sentence as you have heard clearly with proper intonation.

Tips:

  • Repeat sentence as you hear it. Don’t add or delete words.
  • Try to convert sentence into 2 or 3 phrases so that it will be easy while repeating.
  • Try to understand content
  • Repeat with proper stress and intonation (raise voice at important words, lower voice at end of sentence)
  • Keep an eye for timer and be ready to start as soon as the recording starts.
  • If you keep silent for more than 3 seconds, microphone turns off automatically and you cannot record your answer.
  • If you miss even one question, you won’t be able to get 79+ in PTE academic test.

Tricks:

  • Try to repeat complete sentence. Don’t give pause or repeat half sentence.
  • If you miss some words or part of sentence, replace them with suitable words.

Describe image:

In this section you will get around 5 to 6 questions. You will have 30 to 40 seconds to prepare your answer. At the end of 30 seconds, recording starts, and you can record your answer up to 40 seconds.

Tips:

  • Mostly you will get image with bar graph, line graph, pie chart or a normal picture like map or process diagram.
  • For bar graph, line graph and pie chart, start with low and high point and explain few things about other values.
  • For map or process diagram, just read few things on the picture and try to connect them.
  • Don’t repeat or restart your sentence.
  • Don’t give long pauses while recording.

Template for describe image (bar graph, line graph, pie chart): If you can fill blanks and xx with proper values from image and speak clearly in fast pace, you should be able to score high marks in this section.

Introduction (10 secs): This bar chart/line chart/ pie chart shows us information about ………. (read the heading of the image)

Key features (15 secs): We can clearly see that xx for the year xx is the lowest whereas xx for the year xx is the highest. Also, for the year xx, xx is at xx values followed by xx at xx(value). [If you still have time describe few other values in the image]

Conclusion (10 secs): Finally, we can conclude that xx has the highest value/consumption and xx have the lowest value/consumption.

Introduction (10 secs): This image gives us/ depicts us information about ………. (read the heading of the image)

Key features (15 secs): We can clearly see that there are different stages in the process like …. (read all stages of process). Process flows from …. (read flow of process from starting to end).

Conclusion (10 secs): Finally, we can conclude that this image gives us lot of information about ….. (read the process name)

Retell lecture:

In this section you will get around 2 to 3 questions. Lecture/recoding last for 40 to 60 seconds. You will have 30 to 40 seconds to prepare your answer. At the end of 30 seconds, recording starts, and you can record your answer up to 40 seconds.

Tips:

  • Make note of important keywords from the lecture. Don’t try to note all keywords, just make note of 3 to 5 words and form sentences using the template given below.
  • You may or may not get beep after end of preparation time, so be alert.
  • Repeated exam questions are available on this website (www.ptebaba.com). Go and practice them. You can easily score high in this section.

Template for Retell lecture:

The speaker gives us information about … (lecture topic). He/she says that keyword 1. He/she gives information about keyword 2. He/she also said about keyword 3. Finally, he concluded by giving lot of information about keyword 1,2,3.

Answer short questions:

In this section you will get 10 questions. You need to answer immediately after the recording.

This question type is easy compared to others in this section. Just refer to the material on our website. We have included lot of questions for you to practice.

Writing section:

Summarize written text

You will get 2-3 questions in this section. If you receive 3 question, you will get only one essay or else you will get 2 essays.

TIPS & Tricks:

  • Write single sentence around 30 to 35 words. Don’t try to make long sentences as this might lead to grammatical mistakes.
  • Try to combine two or more simple sentences into complex compound sentence and you should be good. I will write separate article about on how to combine and extract data.
  • Please refer to repeated exam questions in this website. We have solved all question using the same strategy.

Essay:

You will get 1 or 2 questions in this section depending upon your SWT.

TIPS & Tricks:

  • Try to write around 250 words without spelling mistakes.
  • Include one or two fancy words in the essay. That should be enough to get high score.
  • Essay should contain three or four complex sentences and on or two complex compound sentences.
  • Essay should contain proper structure like introduction, body 1, body 2 and conclusion.
  • I will write separate article on how to write essay to score high.

Reading: Practice is the key to score high in this section. Our website has lot of practice material for reading section. Practice and you should be good.

Listening:

Summarize spoken text:

In this section you will get 2 audio recordings. You will have xx time to answer them. Total word count should not cross 70 words.

Tips:

  • Note 4 to 5 keywords while listening to the recording.
  • Unlike summarize written text, you can write your answer in multiple sentences.
  • Please make sure to write your answer close to 70 words.
  • Include one complex compound sentence in your answer and you should be good.
  • Please refer to practice questions in this website. All questions are solved using same technique.

All other question types: Practice is the key to score high in this section. Our website has lot of practice material for reading section. Practice and you should be good.

Write from dictation:

You will get 3 questions in this section. There won’t be timelimit for this section, but try to complete other sections fast so that you have sufficient time to attempt these questions.

Tips:

  • These questions carry high marks in PTE.
  • Type sentence as you hear it. Don’t add or delete words.
  • Try to convert sentence into 2 or 3 phrases so that it will be easy while writing.
  • Try to understand sentence meaning.
  • Use proper grammar and punctuation.
